Powerful Words



Have you ever said anything you later regretted? I wished I had 10 bucks for every time I said something that I shouldn’t have in my life. What comes out of our mouths can get us into trouble. We’ve all been there. We’ve said things we shouldn’t have. Let’s face it, we can all learn to be better at watching what comes out of our mouths. James is talking about the power of the tongue in chapter 3. Read 3:1-12.

Here is the truth about the tongue that James shares with us:

** Although small, the tongue packs a huge punch!


The tongue, although a small part of the body hurts others –destroys anything in its path. That’s what a fire does. The greatest of fires can be started by just a small spark. John Wycliffe said—“The tongue breaks the bone even though the tongue has no bone. Many of you are still coping and getting over the destructive words that you heard come out of the mouths of those you love. Words do cut like a knife. They have the power to bring life or death. Not only do our words hurt others sometimes but they also hurt us. It hurts us. That’s why James says it (tongue) “corrupts the whole person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on fire by hell. It corrupts us. We say hurtful, meaningless things to one another. It can destroy all it comes in contact with including the person who has the out of control tongue. 1Peter 3:10 says, “Whoever would love life and see good days must keep his tongue from evil and his lips from deceitful speech.” The reason many people are not enjoying life today is because of the results of what has come out of their mouths.

**James also teaches us in this passage that the tongue can get out of hand. James says we have done a great job of taming Tigers, Lions, lizards, parrots, and dolphins but no man has tamed the tongue. He calls it a restless evil, full of deadly poison. The truth about poison is that even small amounts can be deadly.

James gives an illustration of how our tongues are not completely tamed. Verses 9-10: “With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God’s likeness. Out of the same mouth come praise and cursing. This should not be.


Our tongue reveals how inconsistent we can be. Just think about some of the things that come out of our mouths. “I love you to someone we truly love. Then a day later we say I can’t stand being around you. We recite John 3:16 which says, “For God so loved the world” and yet we say to one of our friends after church, “did you see who was in church today? What were they doing there?

You see our tongue is a thermometer. It shows our spiritual temperature. If our words are bad it reveals the condition of our spiritual state. The tongue is also a thermostat. It regulates. We need to keep a close eye on the thermostat. If our tongues are out of control our relationship with God is out of control. The Bible teaches us that were words are many sin is not absent.

We need to embrace a new or renewed perspective about what we say. We need to keep it under control. How can we get into the habit of doing that? I would like to share from God’s word some truths that can help us to say the right things and use our tongues to glorify God, and build up others.

First of all, we need to get into the habit of doing more listening than talking. James 1:19 exhorts us to be quick to listen and slow to speak. I don’t know about you guys but I have suffered from “foot in the mouth disease.” This is where I talk long enough or at the wrong moment where I say something I shouldn’t have said. All it takes is less than 1% of our word inventory to ruin the effect on the other 99%of what we say. We need to learn how to be better listeners.


We need to be determined to always speak the truth. Ephesians 4:25-29 says, “Therefore, each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to his neighbor, for we are all members of one body.” He is talking to believers here. It’s important to understand that when we lie to others we are lying to ourselves as well because we are part of the body. Let’s take off the masks of falsehood and be who God has called us to be and do what he has called us to do—by removing the masks of falsehood. We need to speak truthfully to others and we need to speak truthfully about others! I have heard it said, “A lie is a coward’s way of getting out of trouble.” I’ve also heard it said “the truth is clear as a bell but not always tolled.” Let’s speak the truth. We need to test what we say. Paul gives us a good test in Ephesians 4:29: “Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. We need to ask ourselves, “Is what I am saying helping others?” “Is what I am saying building others up?” If they don’t pass the test then you don’t say it! We need to understand that our words can bring healing to people. Read with me Proverbs 12:18 “Reckless words pierce like a sword, but the tongue of the wise brings healing. Proverbs 16:24 says, “Pleasant words are a honeycomb, sweet to the soul and healing to the bones."

PRAYER


Heavenly Father, encourage us be mindful of our words. Help us realize that just as we our words can build someone up we can just as quickly tear them down. You made us to be kind, loving, and inspiring to each other. Guide us to use our mouths for spreading the glory of your words and not our own. In your Holy name we ask these things. Amen.

GOD IS PEACE



 VERSE

Philippians 4:6-9 THE PEACE OF GOD

6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.


Here is a promise - when we pray, we’ll get something. Phil 4:6-7 “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God” (v. 6). In other words don’t struggle, don’t worry... Whatever is troubling you, whatever that is weighing heavily on your heart - this is what you are to pray about.

Whatever it is — talk to Him about it! And then the promise -
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, shall guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (v.7).Do not be anxious about anything - in order words, not even over one thing. We need not have to be worried for any ONE thing.

In fact, the ball is in our court - we have to "choose" not to worry... The other alternative is - GIVE IT TO GOD. It is a picture of God inviting us to come to Him. "Come, give it to Me!" Are you worried about something? God says, "Come, leave it to Me!" Are you carrying something heavy in your heart? "God says, "Come, give it to Me!"

Use of the words - CAST...
§ Psalm 55:22 (turn to it together) Cast your cares on the LORD and He will sustain you; He will never let the righteous fall.
§ 1 Pet 5:7 Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
There is this sense of an EXCHANGE...

Jesus:
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matt 11:28)He is standing there... ready to help us. Unless we allow Him, He will not force us to let go.

Oswald’s Chambers in his devotional book, My Utmost for His Highest asks this question: "Are You Obsessed by Something?" He says we are to be obsessed only by the presence of God. If I am obsessed by something - I will be thinking of it all the time, throughout the day. And into the night, I’ll even dream about it. Now if we’re so conscious of God’s presence all the time, nothing else can get into my life - not worries, not concerns.

"The beginning of anxiety is the end of faith, and the beginning of true faith is the end of anxiety." ...George Mueller.

HOW ARE WE GOING TO DO THAT? By PRAYER and PETITION
The equation is clear: PRAY and you’ll receive PEACE (that transcend all understanding.)

Do you want to worry less? Then pray more! If I constantly PRAY for EVERYTHING, then I won’t need to be ANXIOUS about anything. Because SOMEONE better, wiser, greater - is handling it! It is now in His hands!

Prayer is doing just that - casting our cares on Him, letting go of our concerns to God. Believing that He is more than capable of handling it.

Henry Blackaby in his book Experiencing God, writes, "As you no doubt have discovered, becoming a Christian does not make your problems go away. But it does give you an advocate to whom you can take every concern."

"Casting our cares" is a choice you make. It means consciously handing over our anxiety to Him and allowing Him to carry the weight of our problems. Very often, this is the most difficult part of trusting God.

Someone said, "He wants you to learn to trust His heart even when you cannot trace His steps."

Dear bro/sis, God sees you as His frail child, burdened with a load that surpasses your strength. He stands prepared to take your load and to carry it for you. Will you let Him?

Find a quiet place where you can pour your heart out to God in prayer. Do it every day, consistently. And I promise you on the authority of God’s Word, you will find release from your burdens!

GOD GIVES US A PROMISE WHEN WE DO THAT...
Verse 7:
And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.So living a life the peace of God is a choice. Nothing can rob you of your peace - because it does not come from the circumstances, the people around you, or this world. It comes from God.

We have this peace because of the assurance that God has our lives under control. And He is continuously working (though mysteriously) to accomplish His purpose.

7And the peace of God... will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. The words “will guard your hearts” is from a military word - "setting up of sentry guards". Picture of guards patrolling and keeping watch at the gates, making sure no harm can come in. God’s peace protects our hearts and minds, so we won’t be overtaken by fears and anxieties.
Peace In Christ Jesus


In the north Atlantic, icebergs are often seen in the wintertime. Ships sailing the Atlantic are often caught in violent storms. Mighty vessels are tossed about like chips by the huge waves. How different it is with the icebergs! Like majestic, white castles, they glide peaceful through the storms. They were defiant of the mighty waves, which are hurling against them. Why? Only one-ninth of an iceberg is above the waters. The lower part is deep in the ocean where there is calm.   When our lives are hidden with Christ, the storms of life are powerless to take from us the peace we have in God.

And finally... Paul says:

8 Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me - put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you.Think of what God has revealed to us - the truth, that which is noble, right, pure, lovely, and admirable. We often think of the negative. We focus on how many who had died and not on the many who had recovered.

We have a BIG God, an Almighty, powerful, great God. We have to think on the TRUTH revealed to us, the PROMISES of God... whatever is true, noble, right, pure, lovely, admirable - if anything is excellent or praiseworthy - think about such things. 9Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me, or seen in me (the truth of God preached and lived by Paul) - put it into practice. 

If He is the God of peace, it means where God is, there is peace.

It’s interesting to know that Jesus is called the Prince of Peace (Isa 9:6).  Although we can use other names - Prince of Hope, Prince of Love... these are appropriate. Perhaps that’s what man needed most - peace in our hearts. And Isaiah was inspired to reveal Him to us in such a way...

(1) Make a choice - decide to cast your cares on Him and stop worrying.
(2) Do something - pray.
(3) And we are given a promise: Peace.

How God would help you out in your particular problem, we do not know. But no matter what the outcome, one thing is definite - He is to give you His peace. This does not mean we’ll get what we want. It means we can live with it because we’ve got something better — satisfaction.

God knows your unfulfilled desires, your broken dreams, your disappointments, and your defeats. He can bring about peace in your life in the midst of these challenges and He longs to do that for you today.

Pray for God to give you a new perspective on your difficult circumstances. Ask for His help to strengthen your trust in Him and your reliance upon His power despite the difficulty you are facing. He will enable you to find that peace He longs to give you.

If you have never trusted Christ as your Saviour and yet your heart longs to cry out for help, you can do so today. Call on Him to forgive your sins. Believe that He died for you and make Him your Lord and Saviour. You will receive the forgiveness of sins and a new life. There is a home in heaven waiting for us. Accept Jesus Christ today.

PRAYER

Dear Most Gracious and Holy God, our Prince of Peace. You know our troubles, our disappointments, our strengths and weaknesses. We lay our troubles on you and ask that you grant us peace to deal with the outcomes of the difficult situations we face in this life. Help us to know that you are always there to pick us up when we fall and give us the strength to stand tall.You will never fail us or leave us. AMEN.

Happy Father's Day


Today is such a special day. We have a whole day dedicated to honor our fathers. Whether you have one father or more there is such an awesomeness to this day. I have three fathers: My Earthly Father, My Heavenly Father and my deceased Stepfather.  As I reminisce about my childhood, I revisit fond memories that I had from little life lessons to just plain good times. My dad taught me how to take my first steps, ride a bicycle, fish, shoot a shotgun for target shooting and hunting, the difference between a flathead and phillip's head screwdriver, how to assist in working on stuff like waterwell pumps, lawn mowers, boat motors, etc. I guess you could say I was daddy's little helper and shadow. He took me to church and helped guide me in the right direction. What are some of the traits that stand out in my mind? Well, a big,big heart. He always was very friendly. Everyone knows him from towns near and far. He was always a helper. He would help anyone and give them the shirt off his back if he needed to and he is still that way to this day. My father was there to provide discipline but luckily I didn't require that very often. Guess I was exceptional in that area.


My Heavenly Father has also provided me with many tools and guided me with his loving hands. He is always loving, forgiving, gentle, looks for the best in me, guides in down the right paths and helps me realize when I have ventured down the wrong one. Even though I can't actually see him and hold him in my arms, I know he is always with me. He left me a written instruction book ,"The Bible", which he uses to guide me. I open the pages, pray for his guidance and he often leads me to the much needed words I need to hear. I look forward to the day when I can see his face and thank him in person for all he has done and showed me in this life.


My Stepfather, I should mention as well, I suppose. He has been gone one year today. To mention a few words on his behalf, he is most remembered by me for his gentlemanly demeaner. He was a true "Southern Gentleman" with all the manners. A member of the "Old School" where you opened doors for Ladies and spoke respectfully. He was an avid hunter of ducks, doves, pheasants,  and geese. Hunting season for somethings was 365 days a year. He loved to write hunting articles and did have several of them published in 'Outdoor Life Magazine'. My dad and stepfather were instrumental in me learning to shoot and hunt. I don't use these talents very often these days, but can rely on them if I decide to do so. Their views have tremendously influenced my outlook of nature and wildlife. For that I am grateful and have been able to pass that down to my children.


This day would not be complete without mentioning my husband. Although he is not my father, he is the father of my two beautiful children. I have known this man 25 years and been married to him for 23 1/2. We met in college. By our third date he was telling me that he was going to marry me one day. Needless-to-say, I thought he was crazy but here we are. I could tell back then by the way little children were drawn to him on mission trips and other places that he would be a good father one day. I am proud to say that I was right. He is a great dad to our children and I know he will be a wonderful grandpa one day.


Well to all the fathers I want to wish a very good day to you. You are what makes us all special and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

If You Had Only One Day To Live


What If You Will Die Tomorrow?

"Boast not thyself of to morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth." (Proverbs 27:1)

"
And this know, that if the goodman of the house had known what hour the thief would come,
he would have watched, and not have suffered his house to be broken through
."
(Luke 12:39)


What would you do today, if you knew you would die tomorrow?

Think about that!
What would you do if you had only one day to live!

What would you do with that one day?
Maybe you would spend it doing something you had always wanted to do,
but had never gotten the chance.
Maybe you would choose to spend it with family and friends.
Maybe you would want to spend that one day fulfilling some fantasy,
or perhaps it would be spent as had every other day of your life had been spent.

If you had only one day to live, how would you spend it?


Moses said that we should number our days, count them one by one, in order to be wise.
(Psalm 90:12)

When you are down to only one day left to live, there will not be time to then live the way
you should have.
Jonathan Edwards made a resolution at the age of 18-20 to live each day as if it were the last.

What would you do differently today, if you knew that you will die tomorrow?
Would you start searching God's Word for the assurance that you need?
Would you start praying to God with fervent weeping?

Would you make peace and express deep affection for your spouse, and family and friends?
Would you hit the "off" button on the radio or television, and turn to God for His help?.
Would you try to get serious about loving the Lord?
Would you express your love to God, and ask for His mercy and forgiveness?

Or, would you still foolishly procrastinate like Governor Felix under Paul's preaching.
(Acts 24:25)
I don't think that you would say one negative thing about others today.
I don't believe that all the trivial things that bother you now would bother you,
if today were your last day on this earth.

I believe that you would hold your loved ones close, and thank them for the good things
that they have done for you.
I believe that you would have a serious talk to your children about greater things
than their homework or cleaning their room.

I believe that you would honor and obey your parents with great love, if you were to die tomorrow.
I believe that your priorities would change in your use of your limited time,
and that you would value every minute that you had left.
I believe that you would be absolutely content with the things you already have, if you were dying.

I also believe that your mind will not be focused on idle thoughts in your last hours..
All of the politics, business, and all worldly matters would fade from your mind
in the face of your last day of life on this earth.

We can be certain that one day soon, maybe even today or tomorrow you will die.
There is only one way to prepare for the day before the day you will die, live as if it were today!
You will die tomorrow!

Whether it is tomorrow or another tomorrow, you will die tomorrow!
When tomorrow arrives, it will be too late to make any corrections as to how you have lived
the thousands of days that God has given you. days!

What an opportunity you have today!
I am warning you to live today for death tomorrow, so you can make the needed preparation.

Paul faced death often (Acts 14:19; II Cor 4:11; 11:23), and this caused him to live
righteously and to die with assurance that he would be in heaven with Jesus.
(2 Cor 5:8-11; Phil 1:21-23; 2 Tim 1:12; 4:6-8).

In Psalm 84:10-12 David said:
"For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand.
I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness.
For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory:
no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.
O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee."

In these verses David talks about his decision, and the reasons why he feels this way.
As we look at these 3 verses, think about the words, "If I Only Had One Day!"

David tells us that he had rather be the lowly door keeper in the House of God
than to enjoy the all the wealth and luxury of evil.
David was saying that if his life was about to end, he wanted to be found serving the Lord.

The greatest thing anyone can say is that he is being faithful to the task to which
God has called him.
If I had one day to live I would want to be found in my place of service doing
what the Lord has called me to do!
You will either be ready and become a Christian, or you will be lost.
The apostle Paul did not say he was almost ready.
He said, I am ready.
Are you ready?

There are many Christians who will tell you that they are not ready to die today,
but they are going to get ready.I seriously considered what would a Christian need to do to be ready to meet God.

Are all of your relationships in good order?
Does your husband, your children and your loved ones know that you really love them?
Just saying that they should know doesn't cut it.

Do you give them the understanding that they need?
Are you ready to help them when they need your help?
Are you kind and considerate when they need that from you?
Do they know how important they are to you?
Do you spend enough time with them?

When you die, will your family feel at peace with how they feel toward you,
or will you leave them wishing for something that you didn't give them?
When it is my time I want to be ready.
I want to go in peace.
I want to go satisfied that I did my best.
I want to know I accomplished the things that I knew were important, but more importantly
I want to know I accomplished the things God gave me to do.
When I get on the other side, it will be too late.

To do everyday what I have to do.

And tomorrow may never be mine.
Lord help me today, show me the way

Encourage Others-- It's Our Christian Duty



One of the highest of human duties is the duty of encouragement. It is easy to pour cold water on their enthusiasm; it is easy to discourage others. The world is full of discouragers. We have a Christian duty to encourage one another. Many a time a word of praise or thanks or appreciation or cheer has kept a man on his feet. Jesus certainly knew how to encourage others! Think about the time the disciples were caught in the middle of the Sea of Galilee during a fierce storm. Just when they were ready to give up, Jesus came alongside their boat and said, "Take courage, it is I!" Just before His death, Jesus spent a great deal of time encouraging His disciples.

What are the marks of people with the gift of encouragement? They are people who are willing to get involved with other people’s problems and heartaches. They are good listeners. Encouragers are sensitive to other people’s needs. Those who encourage others will offer forgiveness to those who need to make a new start. If you have the gift of encouragement, use it. Write someone a letter, visit the sick, pat someone on the back, sit with the bereaved, share your money, be a good listener, and be available to others.


VERSE

The Lord will keep you from all evil; he will keep your life. The Lord will keep your going out and your coming in from this time on and forevermore. PSALM 121: 7-8.

PRAYER

Dear Lord, I want the encouragement I get from you to go through me to others I love and ones I don't know. Show me how to pray for them, Lord, that they might receive so much of your heavenly encouragement that their cups are overflowing! Teach me to respect each person I love for who they are in your eyes, Lord. And may all my prayers for them be a great encouragement to them. Amen.

Spread The Word


I wonder how many times I've had the opportunity to tell someone else what you've done in my life, Lord, only to walk away without saying a word. You see, Lord, in order to get to the part of the story where you saved me from my sins, it's necessary for me to confess the sins to someone new. My shame or my pride, perhaps both, make it difficult for me to do that sometimes, Lord. Yet I know that I must never be ashamed of your saving grace, and that by sharing what you've done for me I might be encouraging someone else to turn to you. So forgive my hesitation, Lord.

I pray that until the day I die I will be able to tell all the people I meet what you have done for me. Amen.

The Lord's Memorial Day


Memorial day is a day of remembrance for those who have died in our nation’s service. It traces its roots back to 1868 when General John Logan, of the Grand Army of the Republic, declared May 30th as a day of remembrance. In December of 2000, Congress passed a resolution which asks all Americans “to voluntarily and informally observe a Moment of Remembrance and respect,” at 3:00 local time. Tomorrow is the official Memorial Holiday, but many people see it as just a 3-day weekend. For those who have lost someone because of war or military action, it means much more than a day off. In fact, every American ought to recognize this day in honor of those who spilled their blood to make America what she is today--free, strong, and a nation worth fighting for. Because men have died for this country, we have the right to spread God’s word freely. We have the right to live at peace in our own homes. We have the right to pursue peace, prosperity and happiness. Memorial Day is a time when we remember a sobering fact: The Cost of Freedom is Blood.

Once a year we observe Memorial Day. But for the Christian, every week is a celebration of the Memorial of Christ. Jesus fought the armies of Hell so that we can be set free. For the Christian, every Sunday is a Memorial Day.On the Lord’s Memorial Day, we can’t help but think of a big“If Only.” “If only we had not sinned He would not have had to die.” The truth is, we are to blame. When we come to the Lord’s Memorial, we stand before a mirror and face the truth in Romans 3:23: All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Today as well as every day, let's remember to do these three things:


1-Mourn the loss of the body of Christ
2-Remember the life, the death, and the resurrection of Jesus
3-Give heartfelt thanks for His sacrifice.


'God blesses those who are persecuted because they live for God,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.'

(Matthew 5:10 NLT)

Prayer For Today

Dear God of Love, God of Peace,

This fractured world cries out in pain. It burns deep into my soul and challenges me to make a difference. God of Love, God of Peace, God of this world, we are scarred by grief, tears, ignorance and fear. Soften our hearts of stone, Lord, beginning with mine. God of Love, God of Peace create within me a heart for people and a sincere desire for change and new beginnings.  In your precious and Holy name I pray. AMEN.

Strength for Today


In the shadow of your wings I will take refuge.... Psalm 57: 1


Like a little child in trouble, I searched for a place to hide, until the storms of life would pass me by. But no place I found was deep enough, strong enough, safe enough, to shield me from danger. Only the shadow of your wings, dear Lord, could provide the shelter I require. There are days I feel so sad and blue wondering why some things happen and what I shall do. I think about your wonderous love as I seek guidance from up above. I try to think of them as little life lessons and believe that when all is done you will bestow on me many blessings. God Gives Hope for Happiness


Many times I hear people say....I just want to be happy that's all. They want to be happy in their jobs, their marriage, or just life in general. In fact, it is what everyone is in search of but not everyone finds. Of course, Psychologists say that people need three things to make them happy. First of all they need something to do. Secondly, they need something to love. Finally, they need something to look forward to. I think Scripture agrees with this. However, to be truly happy and satisfied we must make sure that we are doing the right thing, loving the right thing, and looking forward to the right thing. The passages before us, John 14: 1-21, as well as many others in Scripture show us what to do, what to love and what to look forward to.


Reading of God's Word:

1 “Don’t be troubled. Believe in God, and believe in me.2 My Father’s house has many rooms. If that were not true, would I have told you that I’m going to prepare a place for you?3 If I go to prepare a place for you, I will come again. Then I will bring you into my presence so that you will be where I am.
4 You know the way to the place where I am going.”5 Thomas said to him, “Lord, we don’t know where you’re going. So how can we know the way?”6 Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one goes to the Father except through me.
7 If you have known me, you will also know my Father. From now on you know him through me and have seen him in me.”8 Philip said to Jesus, “Lord, show us the Father, and that will satisfy us.”9 Jesus replied, “I have been with all of you for a long time. Don’t you know me yet, Philip? The person who has seen me has seen the Father. So how can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?10 Don’t you believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? What I’m telling you doesn’t come from me. The Father, who lives in me, does what he wants.
11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and that the Father is in me. Otherwise, believe me because of the things I do.12 “I can guarantee this truth: Those who believe in me will do the things that I am doing. They will do even greater things because I am going to the Father.13 I will do anything you ask the Father in my name so that the Father will be given glory because of the Son.
14 If you ask me to do something, I will do it.15 “If you love me, you will obey my commandments.16 I will ask the Father, and he will give you another helper who will be with you forever.
17 That helper is the Spirit of Truth. The world cannot accept him, because it doesn’t see or know him. You know him, because he lives with you and will be in you.18 “I will not leave you all alone. I will come back to you.19 In a little while the world will no longer see me, but you will see me. You will live because I live.20 On that day you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you.
21 Whoever knows and obeys my commandments is the person who loves me. Those who love me will have my Father’s love, and I, too, will love them and show myself to them.”


Everyone needs and wants something to do! There are a lot of things that we can do to make us happy, but if there is one thing we fail to do we will never be satisfied! Jesus Christ gives us what we need to do to find true satisfaction which will lead not only to happiness but joy unspeakable and full of glory!
 Apart from a trust and faith in Christ no one will ever find true joy or satisfaction! We must have confidence in Him as our Lord and Savior.

Jesus let’s us know that after we believe in Him there is still something to do--WORK
You and I have the privilege to be servants and ambassadors of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Telling others about Jesus involves work. Training and discipling Christians takes work. Raising and nurturing our children takes work. Working for the Lord is not a burden, but it is a blessing! We have the opportunity to make an eternal and spiritual difference in mankind! We also have the wonderful privilege to ask from Christ. When we ask things in His name and in His will He will fulfill those requests! Asking in Christ’s name means that we would ask what He would ask, and what would bring glory to Him.You can’t properly ask in His name without knowing His nature. He will provide for us everything that we need that pertains to life and godliness! He will give us the tools necessary to accomplish His purposes!

Christ has given us many commands to obey. He has told us to live holy lives. He has told us to not forsake the assembling of ourselves together, but do it even more so as we see the day approaching. He has told us to preach the Gospel to every creature. He has told us to provoke one another to love and good works. He has told us to build one another up. He has told us to glorify Him.

To be happy we must have something to do. We will do what we think will make us happy. The reason some do more physical things than spiritual is because they think the physical will bring more happiness. However the physical things we do are only temporary and will fade away; our happiness will fade right along with it. We need to do the spiritual: pray, witness attend church, etc.

Not only does everyone need something to do, but everyone needs something to love! Some are in love with money to try to find happiness, but the love of money is the root of all evil and many have pierced themselves through with many sorrows going after it. Some are in love with things to try to find happiness. But they find that things will never satisfy. Jesus said that the 2 greatest commandments involved love! We are to love God with all of our heart, all of our soul and with all of our mind! We are to love our neighbor as our self! An individual that is not in love with God and not in love with his neighbor is an individual who does know about true happiness!


Our Love for God Produces Obedience! Don’t sing Oh, how I love Jesus and live in disobedience to Him! We show Christ how much we love Him, by how much we obey Him. Jesus stresses over and over again in these verses that those that truly love Him, are those that live their lives according to His will. They love Him so much that they realize that He has their best interest at heart and are willing to SURRENDER to His will!  If we love God we will also love those He has made, those created in His image!

God’s Love for us Produces Comfort & Communion. He let His disciples know that He would send them and us the Comforter. The Holy Spirit lives in our hearts to: comfort us, convict us, and to encourage us. What wonderful words Jesus shares with His disciples and words of great comfort for us as well. We are in Him and He is in us! Jesus also tells us that His Father will love us, He will love us and He will manifest Himself to us! Christ loves us and shows Himself to us in His Word and through His Spirit. What wonderful news that we can have something to love; someone to love that loves us more than anything or anyone else could! Money doesn’t love us, things do not love us, immorality doesn’t love us! God does!

Something to Look Forward To. Not only does everyone need something to do, someone to love, but everyone also needs something to look forward to! Do you want to be truly Happy?
Find something to do--Trust in Jesus as your Savior and get busy for Him
Find someone to love--Love God with all your heart, soul and mind, and love your neighbor as yourself.
Find something to look forward to--Look forward to Christ’s return, and spending eternity with Him!


Happiness is only a moment away for everyone. Let us all work for the good of Christ and be happy in him! Show kindness and love to everyone and the world here on earth will be a happier, more peaceful place for us all.

My prayer for today:

Lord, I want to love you with all my heart, soul, and mind as you commanded, but there are times when, although my heart feels full of love for you, my mind goes wandering down another path. My very soul feels heavy and weary some days, not as light as it should be if it's only carrying love instead of the world's burdens. Help me to let you lighten my load, Lord. Unite my heart, soul, and mind as they were once at my birth so I may then again be wholly focused on loving you. Amen.

Mother's Day


Mothers are teachers. Mothers are disciplinarians. Mothers are cleaning ladies. Some mothers are gardeners & mowers of lawns. And most mothers understand that baking cookies is more important than washing windows, too.

Mothers are nurses & doctors & psychologists & counselors & chauffeurs & coaches. Mothers are developers of personalities, molders of vocabularies, & shapers of attitudes. Mothers are soft voices saying, "I love you." And mothers are a link to God, a child’s first impression of God’s love.

Mothers are all of these things & much, much more.

One of my favorite columns by Erma Bombeck tells of God in the act of creating mothers. She says that on the day God created mothers He had already worked long overtime. And an angel said to Him, "Lord, you sure are spending a lot of time on this one."

The Lord turned & said, "Have you read the specs on this model? She is supposed to be completely washable, but not plastic. She is to have 180 moving parts, all of them replaceable. She is to have a kiss that will heal everything from a broken leg to a broken heart. She is to have a lap that will disappear whenever she stands up. She is to be able to function on black coffee & leftovers. And she is supposed to have six pairs of hands."

"Six pairs of hands," said the angel, "that’s impossible." "It’s not the six pairs of hands that bother me." said the Lord, "It’s the three pairs of eyes. She is supposed to have one pair that sees through closed doors so that whenever she says, `What are you kids doing in there?’ she already knows what they’re doing in there."

"She has another pair in the back of her head to see all the things she is not supposed to see but must see. And then she has one pair right in front that can look at a child that just goofed & communicate love & understanding without saying a word."

"That’s too much." said the angel, "You can’t put that much in one model. Why don’t you rest for a while & resume your creating tomorrow?"

"No, I can’t," said the Lord. "I’m close to creating someone very much like myself. I’ve already come up with a model who can heal herself when she is sick - who can feed a family of six with one pound of hamburger - & who can persuade a nine year old to take a shower."

Then the angel looked at the model of motherhood a little more closely & said, "She’s too soft." "Oh, but she is tough," said the Lord. "You’d be surprised at how much this mother can do."

"Can she think?" asked the angel. "Not only can she think," said the Lord, "but she can reason & compromise & persuade."

Then the angel reached over & touched her cheek. "This one has a leak," he said. "I told you that you couldn’t put that much in one model." "That’s not a leak," said the Lord. "That’s a tear."

"What’s a tear for?" asked the angel. "Well it’s for joy, for sadness, for sorrow, for disappointment, for pride." "You’re a genius," said the angel. And the Lord said, "Oh, but I didn’t put it there."


God did create a special person when he created Mother's as well as when he created Fathers. Often times it takes both parents to make the child rearing experience to work.

Being a parent is not easy. Sometimes it is filled with joy & sometimes with sadness. Sometimes your children make you so proud you want to pop your buttons. At other times you can’t find enough handkerchiefs to dry your tears.

What good is it if our children are successful in making money, & driving fine automobiles, & living in good neighborhoods, but they don’t know God? What does it matter if they gain the whole world, but lose their souls?


My prayer for today:

Dear Heavenly Father, you have blessed us with two beautiful children: a boy and a girl. I pray that as they go through this life that we have engraved the proper values, morals, and formed the character that you would be proud of Lord. We have brought them up to know you and tried our best to teach right from wrong. But even though we have done these things in your name, we need you to continue to guide their steps onto the right path reminding them you are always with them. Fill them with your peace, grant them your mercy, and lead them in your ways. In your name I pray, amen.

Love One Another

I was listening to my favorite Christian band of all time, Mercy Me. They have a song that really speaks to me so much that I listen to the song on a daily basis. The song says: Call me crazy but what if we learn to love our brother for nothing in return? Oh how the rules would change. Reaching out to the ones who need help treating them as you first would treat yourself. Now that would be insane. It may just be crazy enough to work if we could only love. What if we somehow changed the world? It may just be crazy enough. Is it so strange to think that one day we will truly see everyone the same. Oh could we be so kind? To sing along when life's playing their tune and cry with them when their hearts are broken in two. Have I lost my mind? It may just be crazy enough. Have I gone mad believing love still has a chance?

 
The Bible instructs us about love through the following verses:

Dear friends, we must love each other because love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born from God and knows God. The person who doesn’t love doesn’t know God, because God is love. God has shown us his love by sending his only Son into the world so that we could have life through him. This is love: not that we have loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the payment for our sins. Dear friends, if this is the way God loved us, we must also love each other. No one has ever seen God. If we love each other, God lives in us, his love is perfected in us. We know that we live in him and he lives in us because he has given us his Spirit. We have seen and testify to the fact that the Father sent his Son as the Savior of the world. God lives in those who declare that Jesus is the Son of God, and they live in God. We have known and believed that God loves us. God is love. Those who live in God’s love live in God, and God lives in them. 1 John 4:7-16 GNT

My prayer for today:

You have touched me with your love, God. The result is love flowing through me to others. I pray for everyone to know that you do not love us so that we can hoard your love for ourselves. You desire that we pass it on to others. By spreading the joy of your love, we improve the lives of those around us--and our own lives in the process. Amen.

Amazing Grace


Let me just start off by saying that I am a sinner as we all have sinned and fallen short of the Glory of the God. There have been many times in my life where I have been disgusted my own free will. As much as each person knows right from wrong, we do not always make the "right"choices. When that happens we are to fall on our knees and ask for his forgiveness. Afterwards, we get up, dust ourself off, and remember that he created us in his own image. We should, therefore live our lives so that others can see Christ's light shining through us. I am always reminded of the following verse:
 
My Grace is all you need, for my power is greatest when you are weak.
2 Corinthians 12:9


My prayer for today:


Heavenly Father, Grace, AMAZING grace is your gift to me. Though I am a sinner, you have saved me from eternal death. You have shown me your mercy and forgiveness. Because you have pardoned my sins, I am a new person in your eyes, Lord. You shower me with your favor and bless me daily. Though I am weak, your grace lives in me and strengthens me. How did I merit such love? Thank you for your unlimited kindness. I will do my best to live every day with the view that you love me beyond measure. That alone is enough for me. Amen.

Prayer

I don't know what the future holds, but I know who holds the future....my Blessed Redeemer and Lord of all, Jesus Christ. It seems like we always have our calenders out planning what we are going to be doing from week to week or month to month. For instance, I know next weekend is Mother's Day. I plan to see my Mom and my Mother-in-law. The next weekend I plan on being in Oklahoma for a retreat. That next week I am moving my daughter home from college and so on. We have it all planned out....but what if God has different plans? His calender may look totally different from mine. The truth is that God has his own plans for our life. We can choose to listen or not listen. In my experience, when we don't listen or we say "You know, God, not right now. I got to do this first but when I'm finished with that I will do it." Hmmm, I find that at this point he does something to get our attention like you would expect your Father to do. Today I am saying this prayer to remind myself that I am not in charge of my destiny. It is God who determines my plans for tomorrow.


Lord, it is hard to keep from projecting too far into the future. I begin to worry about things that I can neither determine nor change. You have promised to be a light unto my feet. That light lets me see where to take my next step but doesn't give me the full view of the path stretching in front of me. I know I can trust you to take me into the future one step at a time. Please give me the strength, wisdom, and direction enough for today, Lord, and I'll leave the future up to you.

My Wish for You

May the stars shine brightly to light your way. May the moon smile down on you today. May God's many blessings cover you like the rain. May each droplet cure your every pain. May you find true happiness when there is none. May you realize your battles have already been won. You are such a special gift from up above. May you always feel the warmth of my love.


I wrote this poem for a dear friend of mine that suffers from several different illnesses. My mom enjoyed it so much that I decided to post it here.
